3 Heart-Opening Creative Mindfulness Activities

This week we are focusing on opening the heart. At a time of change and shift, let’s remember what fills our hearts with love and joy.

These simple activities can help build a greater understanding of the people who are significant to children, and also ensure that we teach them the importance of showing love and kindness to others.

Not only does practicing loving kindness towards others make them feel good, but it does the same for us too!

Three Heart Opening Creative Mindfulness Activities

Our list of 3 heart opening creative activities of the week are:

1. Who Is Important To Me?

This activity is about understanding who is significant in a child’s life by asking them who is important to them. This can help gain a greater connection between you and the child by understanding who they feel closest to at home, in school or their community. If some surprises arise, such as not feeling like a certain family member or friend is important, then perhaps you can explore why. You can also communicate to the child what might help to develop a greater relationship with this family member or friend.

On the outside are the ‘veins’ which is connecting the heart to all those that are loved, and the inside of the heart is all the emotions and feelings that are felt from these people.

When we practice loving kindness and compassion we are the first ones to profit.
— Rumi

2. Loving Kindness Bingo

Creative activities can be make into fun games too! You can create your own loving kindness bingo or use our suggestions and bring this into the home or school on a weekly basis.

Every week set the challenge to complete each loving kind act on the bingo sheet before the week is over! At the end of the week a child can be rewarded with a gold star, special weekly snuggle time, a small treat, or simply just acknowledgement that they are full of kindness and love which is so wonderful to see!

Kind hearts are the garden, kind thoughts are the roots, kind words are the blossoms, kind deeds are the fruit.
— JOhn Ruskin

3. Loving Kindness Notes

Encourage a child to write down some notes of loving kindness and share them with people at home or school.

They can write a special note of kindness, love, or appreciation to someone on each heart shaped note, then cut them out and stick them in a place for the person to see, or simply hand it to them.

Spreading love and kindness helps make the world a better place.
