5 Creative Family Mindfulness Activities To Try This Week

These activities are great ways to support communication at home or school by sparking conversation about how we care for ourselves, our communities, and our planet!

This week, let’s get talking about the importance of self care, expressing our feelings while knowing they are always valid and important, and making sure we are aware of how to support our communities and the precious planet we all share.

Five creative family mindfulness activities

Our list of 5 creative mindfulness activities:

1. Ways I show kindness to the world

Think of ways you can be kind to the earth with this creative activity. It is important to remember our carbon footprint on the planet we share, and how our daily lives can have their impact. Simple things like recycling, using less electricity or water, and cutting out single use plastics are all great ways to help our planet.

The earth is always here to support us, so let’s support it back.

2. DIY stress balls!

All you need is a balloon and some rice, flour or oats, and fill your balloon, tie it and you are ready to go! To help with getting the contents inside, you can make a funnel out of paper too. Maybe you can draw an angry face or worried face so your little ones can learn to identify their feelings, and to give it a good squish to feel better

3. My roots help me grow

Think about the importance of your roots in allowing you to grow and flourish with this activity!

You can each draw your own trees working on the roots to begin with. Think about what is most important to you, what makes you feel happy, peaceful, and draws a sense of joy into your heart, These are the things that keep you grounded to the earth, and are there to ensure you flourish and grow.

For example, if friends are important then put that at the root, and perhaps having good friends gives a feeling of connectedness and joy, so those positive feelings can go into the tree branches.

Make sure that whatever you learn about yourselves and each other, that you try and ensure each week to see those friends or family, to show kindness, or to listen to your favourite music, in order to feel those positive effects and boost daily wellbeing.

4. Good wishing wand

At this festive Halloween time, encourage positive talk through casting good spells on the planet!

What wishes would you want to see in the world?

You could make a wand with a paper straw and a cardboard star cut out stuck to the top, or more simply just draw one out on a piece of paper.

Have fun with your wand and you can pretend to cast these loving kind spells on those around you!

5. Ways I show kindness to myself

It is always useful practice to find ways of talking about how to show kindness to ourselves. Checking in with these often is beneficial to serve as an ongoing reminder to prioritise self-care in our daily lives, but also to show how our self nurturing practices might change over time.
