Om:Pop With Family Support H&F: Brain Architecture

The latest theme was “Brain Architecture,” where we began to think about ways in which we can help children to develop, by providing strong foundations and solid walls of positive experience and nurturing.

Meditation: Brain Architecture and Parental Rewiring

Our kids’ earliest experiences play an essential part in the construction of their brain architecture. It is at this stage that the foundation for lifelong physical and mental health is laid down. But what about the architecture of the parents’ brains? Can we still make structural changes or do some rewiring for our own wellbeing?

Manage Stress Responses Through Calming Family Yoga & Mindfulness

For those interested in trying out some yoga and mindfulness methods at home, here are a few things we did to help promote a sense of calm. You can call upon these methods for those times where stress is amounting to toxic levels and you need to take a moment and recenter, for the benefit of yourself and also to positively model this coping mechanism to your little ones.

Meditation For Inner Calm: Clear Stress Through Mindful Awareness Practices

We all experience stress. And while some stress can actually be positive, too much stress can negatively impact both our mental and physical wellbeing. The good news is that mindful awareness practices, such as yoga and meditation, can help calm our body's stress response.

Mindfulness Toolbox: Bravery and Courage by Jen Armstrong

When you begin your morning routine, take a moment to pause, breathe and reflect about your week ahead. You can say the following quote with your child to set your intention for the week:

“I am thankful for all the times that I can show bravery and courage. ”

“I have a mantra which I say everyday which is ‘May my mind be clear, and my words be kind, and may my actions be full of love.”

Mindfulness Toolbox: With YogaDad Rob Reid

No matter where you are in your journey, don’t focus on what you can’t do or what you’re not doing. Instead, try thinking of Rob’s words: “We’re all different, and the days may even be different with energy levels, injuries, etc., and it’s ok. We’re all here on a journey! The most important step is the first step in the journey.”

“When I do have the odd wobble - perhaps on my way to a studio audition, questioning myself or having a difficult conversation, I come back to the mantra “I am enough.” I inhale “I AM” and exhale “ENOUGH” repeatedly and let it sink into myself. ”

Calm Mindful Family Toolbox by Jen Armstrong

Pay attention to all the times throughout the week that your child shows calm behaviour, or make someone else feel relaxed or calm. You could even create a calmness chart for example making a ‘Calming cloudy sky’- which you draw a cloud to add to the sky when acknowledging a calm moment.
