Welcoming The New Year With Kindness ~ 3 Creative Mindfulness Activities For You and The Children You Support

We have arrived in the year 2023! Let’s welcome it in softly and with kindness.

Do you tend to put great expectations on yourself by making grand New Year’s resolutions, and starting the year with a bang and a spring in your step? Some do begin the year like this and continue on, but this isn’t always the case. It’s quite easy (and normal) for energy to fizzle out, and if we overpromise ourselves from the get-go, it can result in us being less productive and feeling worse than we did before.

Instead of a grand resolution, try taking a step back and being gentle on yourself so you can focus on self-healing. You can begin by creating your own affirmation which will help you through the ups and downs of the year. Find this idea and more in our latest post, and remember that you can do these activities with the little ones you support too.

Three Creative Mindfulness Activities For Children

1. My 2023 Affirmation

This is a lovely activity to do in any setting. You can take time with this, and you can have just one affirmation or as many as you can fill on one page!

Make it colourful, perhaps do it on card or laminate it so it can be hung on a wall, or the inside of a wardrobe, to serve as a daily reminder to yourself or your child.

Nothing is impossible. The word itself says I’m possible!

2. What I Would Like To Do More Of / Less Of

This is an opportunity to reflect on the past year by thinking about the things you did and didn’t enjoy, and moving forward, focusing on what you would like to do more or less of.

You don’t need to have lots of grand or specific ideas here, however they can be if that will be most beneficial for you or your child.

3. My Plate Of Goodness

What we fill our  bodies with will determine the outcome of energy and strength we have to move through every day. Making sure you eat well is so important for the health of the body and mind. So take time with this creative activity to fill out your plate of goodness!

You could also do this activity twice, one which is the plate filled with the current diet if it perhaps is not as balanced or healthy, followed by the second plate which is the goodness plate.
